Aileen Moka joins expanded Vermilion Art team with plans for growth in the coming year
Sydney’s Vermilion Art has announced enhancements to its structure and leadership, with Aileen Moka joining the gallery as co-director of the gallery recognised as one of the leaders in the Chinese art space.
A successful business leader with 20 years of experience, she brings a great knowledge of the visual arts to her new role which commenced in October. An accomplished artist and poet, she will join founding gallery director Dr. Yeqin Zuo as they jointly build on Vermilion’s strong reputation and record of success.
Says Dr. Zuo, “I have known Aileen for several years and have always been impressed by her incredible energy and dedication. Her arrival at the gallery marks a significant development.
“The combination of her extensive commercial experience and art leadership skills complements Vermilion Art’s longstanding commitment to contemporary Chinese art since 2015.”
Established in Sydney in 2015, Vermilion Art is the first commercial gallery in Australia with a focus on Chinese contemporary art. It has played a major role in introducing leading Chinese artists to Australia through exhibitions, curatorial projects, and collaborations.
Vermilion has represented and displayed the works of internationally renowned artists including Fang Lijun 方力钧, Li Jin 李津, Chen Wenling 陈文令, Geng Xue 耿雪, Cang Xin 苍鑫 and Chinese Australian artists such as Ah Xian 阿仙.
In announcing the new role, Ms. Moka says, “I feel honored and excited to be joining forces with Yeqin, who founded the first gallery specialising in contemporary Chinese art in Australia. I have the utmost respect for Yeqin and the Vermilion Art team. Their expertise and dedication to art are extraordinary. Together with other new members and the current team, we look forward to achieving new heights.”
The gallery plans to announce an expanded 2025 program, featuring new artist representations and innovative programs, later this year.
